DUBSTEP LOVE! (RUSKO, CASPA, ZED'S DEAD....)

As I'm sitting here trying to spruce up this site, I can't stop listening to the dark dubstep sounds of Rusko and Zed. It kind of reminds me of some tunes in the old Sega games.. but maybe it's just me. People always ask me what is dubstep? My best answer is a mix of a hip hop beat, produced like electronica and mixed with some overpowering dark, epic synth basses. Then again, I decided to look it up so you can have the real definition...
Wiki says...
"Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that has its roots in London's early 2000s UK garage scene. Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its 2-step rhythm, or use of snare sounds similar to 2-step garage and grime, and an emphasis on bass, often producing "dark" sounds. Dubstep tracks are generally produced at a tempo of around 140 beats per minute and in recent years have developed signature half time rhythms, often heavily shuffled or syncopated, and usually, though not exclusively, including only one snare drum hit per bar, often on the third beat. Such factors make dubstep rhythms markedly different from four-to-the-floor rhythms used in other styles of electronic dance music such as house music, which usually have two snare hits accompanying the second and fourth kick drum. Often, the sense of rhythm in dubstep is propelled more by the bassline than by the percussive content." (aka music for robots!)

WOODWORK FESTIVAL

This past friday I had the privelage to go see the Woodwork Festival in Montreal, Featuring some of my favorite DJs Calvin Harris, Love Thy Brother, Laidback Luke and many More. (Saintwoods.com) " For the first time at the Metropolis, introduce a new music festival to Montreal at nightlife: WOODWORK. There’s a little something for everyone at Woodwork as we mix in the best and brightest across the broad spectrum of electronic music, not to mention eye popping visuals, on stage entertainment, and all the little extras that make Saintwoods events…well…SAINTWOODS EVENTS. If you ‘Killed Halloween’ with Saintwoods, then you can expect more of the same. This will not be your average night on the town."
Featuring....

RATATAT

Ratatat, from Brooklyn, New York, United States is an electronic music duo: guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer driver and producer Evan Mast.
These two originally met as students at Skidmore College, but did not work together musically until 2001, when their project was named Cherry (later the name of the final song in their debut album).
Now Ratatat is one of the most proclaimed producers making tracks for all kinds of beat bumpers like Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, Kanye and many more...Buy some of their music.

Cheers to St.Pattys Day!!

REDIAL

"Once upon a time, not toooo long ago, there was a Ghetto Ruckus. Synths were thrown one way, records another. The police were called and school principals urged parents everywhere to lock up their children. Out of this scattered mess emerged Redial, a modified version of this Ruckus. There was a lot of Sweat –everything and everyone was Trashed but the Bag was about to be filled. Enter Redial – a man unable to hide his ability to destroy dancefloors – shatter speakers – and make piano sound like it never belonged in an orchestra. Blogged everywhere and given props by everyone from Kissy Sell Out to Armand van Helden, Danger to DIM - and now signed to Ajax’s own Sweat It Out label, unfortunately for the principals, kids in pre-school look set to one day dance to the Redial. Right now, he can be heard live at all the right discos (Trashbags, Sounds on Sunday, La La Land), or found in the studio remixing all the right artists (Larry Tee, Gameboy Gamegirl, Kaseo) or soon found in all the right record stores (EP due for June on Sweat It Out). Keep those coins, because one call will not be enough. REDIAL" (myspace) Buy his music...

and...
a little something from me, a mix of some of the best remixes of the black eyed peas biggest hit.

Cheers!
